There have been a lot of changes in our lives and in society in the six decades since Texas Baptist Children's Home was founded in 1950. But one thing remains the same at today's Children At Heart Ministries -- children are at the heart of everything we do.
It is social change that makes your prayers and your financial support today more vital than ever. Today children and families are facing challenges that were not even imagined in those glorified "happy days" of the 1950s.
For children, a changing society and declining family values have forced them to grow up far too quickly, often without effective parenting or spiritual guidance.
For families, economic pressures have produced a challenging environment where two working parents are the rule, not the exception, and where things often boil over in dysfunction and crisis.
For single mothers, often buried in deadend jobs and living paycheck to paycheck, there is a constant struggle to raise their children and deliver them -- and themselves -- into a future that is brighter than their past.
The ministries in the Children At Heart family are committed to changing lives for the better, starting one child, one family and one single mom at a time. Our vision is to put an end to the cycle of child abuse and family crisis that so often is passed from generation to generation and by doing so to build better communities for everyone.
Clearly, the need is there. Between 2009 and 2010, Children At Heart Ministries saw a 76 percent increase in the number of people we served. But the 653 served in residential and foster care programs and 10,746 served in non-residential programs represent more than numbers.
That because behind each number is a face -- the face of a child who for the first time lives in a home filled with hope and love; the face of a single mother who is able to complete her education to make better lives for herself and her children; and the face of a family that has ended dysfunction, learned to communicate, and found out what family really means.

Because of you ...
... children and families are able to get counseling they need to break down barriers that prevent loving communication.
... single mothers live in safe and secure residential communities where they get the help they need to find betters jobs or complete their educations, all while their children live normal lives.
... children live with loving house parents in family-style cottages where they are loved and safe from harm.
... teenage boys who get lost on the road to manhood get the chance of a lifetime to rebuild damaged lives and damaged families
And while the impact you have on individual children and families is an enormous blessing, equally important is the positive influence on our communities.
Because of the changes you are making in their lives, there is less likelihood they will need long-term public assistance, will face incarceration, or will subject their own children to abuse, neglect or family dysfunction.
But because you have given them hope, healing and an opportunity to succeed, there is a greater chance they will have stable employment, successful careers and better parenting skills.
