Family Care

Texas Baptist Children’s Home has continued to find innovative ways to keep families together whenever possible. The concept of family cottages that served as sanctuaries for single mothers and their children became a reality in June 1979, when the first family was accepted into residence.

In these residential group settings with resident staff supervision and role modeling of appropriate living skill, our clients are able to create a healing, healthy, Christian environment conducive to growth for the individual and family unit as the mother works toward self-sufficiency.

Family Care is a place for motivated mothers and their children to live while they transition into successful, independent futures. The ministry has eight cottages housing up to five families in each cottage, with live-in staff. A staff therapist offers supportive services through individual, group and family therapy for every mother and child. Assistance is provided in goal setting, education, budgeting, parenting, effective communication, relationship building and spiritual growth.

Mothers commit to being gainfully employed, developing a spending plan, maintaining their own child care and transportation and attending group and individual counseling sessions, which Family Care provides. Each family shares the responsibilities of group cottage living. Families have private bedrooms, bathrooms and kitchen areas and share a large dining, living, laundry and play spaces. Family Care provides necessary linens, household goods and dishes. Our residents receive food, clothing or furnishings assistance through the campus Commissary if needed.

All clients accepted into the Family Care program complete an admission application and various steps of assessment. Applications are available to be picked up at 1101 N Mays, Round Rock, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. or can be found online. For more information about the Family Care Program, contact Lori Wiste or call (512) 246-4232.

Family Care Counseling is also available on a limited basis to women in the community who are not in residence in the Family Care program or in After Care. Contact Counseling Intern Laura Squiers at (512) 246-4281 or via email to make an appointment.
